Wait, I Thought the Government Would Take Care of Me!

In absolutely no surprise to us at FSR, we are hearing reports out of New York of chronic food shortages, no gasoline, and a prediction that the power won’t be turned on for another 10 days. Of course, these things are expected when a once-in-100-year storm hits a major metropolitan area.

What is a bit shocking is people’s utter lack of preparation for these types of events. The prevailing belief is that government will always be there to protect us so we don’t have to go through the inconvenience of protecting ourselves. Naivete at its best.

New Yorkers “dumpster dive” at a Key Food Supermarket looking for something to eat.

Yorkers literally dumpster diving to find something to eat. Yeah that’s right, dumpster diving in New York City. The reporter goes on to say kids were on top of the garbage trying to find anything–food or water–because they had nothing back home.
