Katadyn Pocket Water Filter is Perfect for Emergency Preparedness

As we have said multiple times on this site, you must have a way to get clean water in case of emergency. Human beings consume so much water through drinking, sanitation, and bathing among other things that it is practically impossible to keep a store of fresh, clean water. You would need many containers as well as a place to store them all.

Katadyn Pocket Water FilterWhat you need is a water source and a way to filter and clean that water. In many parts of the US, rivers and lakes are prevalent. In other areas such as the desert Southwest, water is much harder to find. What you need to do is scout out the area close to your home and see what’s available. There may be a canal, a well, or some other water source.

Once you find the water, you then need to have a way to filter it. One of the best products we have tested is the Pocket Water Filter by Katadyn. The Pocket filter has the following specs:

  • Capacity: 13,000 gallons / 50,000 liters
  • Dimensions: 24 by 6 centimeters / 10 by 2.4 inches
  • Output: 1 quart/liter per minute
  • Technology: 0.2 micron ceramic depth filter (cleanable)
  • Weight: 550 grams / 20 ounces
  • 20 year warranty

One reviewer had the following to say:

This is a quality product. It is a little on the expensive side but worth it compared to the other ones on the market. Good for 2 people on a trip. I used it during a camping trip for 4 people.  When the filter became hard to pump I just cleaned it with the supplied pad. Real easy to clean. It preformed like new again.

The one part of your emergency supply prep you don’t want to skimp on is a good water filter. I know it seems difficult to pay $300-$400 for a good water filter, but you don’t want to put you or your family at risk because of a few bucks.
