About Daily Bread

Daily Bread was founded in 2005 in reaction to the events surrounding Hurricane Katrina. Daily Bread started out mainly as a door-to-door sales company staffed by college kids trying to earn money in the summer. The company’s roots are in states with high concentrations of Mormons, although you can now find reps across many of the western states.

A few years ago, Daily Bread and its sister company, Food Insurance, were purchased by the Canadian company Freeze Dry Foods. With the acquisition, Daily Bread is no longer just a reseller of Mountain House food, but is now an original manufacturer of emergency food products. In fact, the only two USDA certified companies that can freeze dry meat are Mountain House and Freeze Dry Foods (parent company of Daily Bread and Food Insurance).

Daily Bread has always been a leader in the food storage industry. In 2009, Daily Bread launched its online sales company called Food Insurance that used Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity, and other celebrities to endorse its products. Today, the company is officially called Food Insurance LLC but uses the Daily Bread brand in all of its meal packages.

Last year, the company launched a line of pouch products called Campfire Meals in order to better compete head-to-head against Mountain House. Don’t be surprised if you see this brand on some of the inner packaging. Don’t worry, they all come from the same food processing factories at Freeze Dry Foods in Canada.

Finally, Daily Bread is one of the first emergency food companies to take nutrition seriously. All of the emergency food storage plans are crafted to provide the U.S. recommended daily allowances for vitamins and minerals and stay within the limits of more harmful ingredients such as sugar and sodium.

Our Opinion

Daily Bread (Food Insurance/Campfire Meals) is a real pioneer in the emergency food preparation industry, and it is easily one of the largest resellers of food storage. Even though Mountain House is not the original manufacturer of the food anymore, Freeze Dry Foods is every bit as good in taste and quality. Daily Bread meals contain real freeze-dried meats and animal products that make it taste like real food. You get what you pay for, and this is some of the best.

Quick Summary

Daily Bread was founded in 2005 as a result of how poorly prepared many residents were for Hurricane Katrina. Today the company is owned by Freeze Dry Foods from Canada and is an original manufacturer of freeze-dried emergency food products. Although Daily Bread is still the brand name, the official company name is Food Insurance LLC. Other brands include Campfire Meals and Emergency Reserve.
